PESSTO Year 5 - Final SOFI Imaging reduction

Summary:

SOFI images reduced with PESSTO pipeline version 2.4.0.

The final SOFI reductions resulted in 216 reduced near-IR images of which 74 in J-band, 72 in H-band, and 70 in Ks-band. Notes on the reductions below.

2016-08-01:

SN2016adj JHK observations obtained with an ON-OFF pattern. However, the offset for the OFF sky field is not large enough for the PESSTO pipeline to recognise the ON-OFF mode and carry out a proper reduction. Therefore, the reductions were carried out without the OFF sky frames, which resulted in very poor quality reductions.

2016-08-01:

SN2016adj J-band observations include incomplete observation sequences. Only one full set of four J-band observations was reduced.

2016-08-08:

SN2016adj JHK observations obtained with an ON-OFF pattern. However, the offset for the OFF sky field is not large enough for the PESSTO pipeline to recognise the ON-OFF mode and carry out a proper reduction. Therefore, the reductions were carried out without the OFF sky frames, which resulted in very poor quality reductions.

2016-09-24:

CSS160904 Ks-band sequence has DIT and NDIT values that change during the sequence of 10 files with the same OBS ID. The PESSTO pipeline will try to merge all these files, which would result in a reduced image that is not useful. The data was re-reduced using only the last 8 files with DIT=8 NDIT=15, excluding the following first 2 files with DIT=15 NDIT=10.

2016-10-04:

SN2016cvk H-band reduced image has some sky subtraction residuals in the default PESSTO pipeline reduction. Image re-reduced without the illumination correction step, which appeared to improve the image quality.

iPTF16geu H-band reduced image has some sky subtraction residuals in the default PESSTO pipeline reduction. Image re-reduced without the illumination correction step, which appeared to improve the image quality.

2016-10-09:

SN2015F H-band observations obtained with an ON-OFF pattern using an OB that does not follow a PESSTO OB template. The PESSTO pipeline aligns the frames poorly.

2016-10-21:

SN2015F J-band observations obtained with an ON-OFF pattern using an OB that does not follow a PESSTO OB template. The PESSTO pipeline fails to align the frames correctly.

2016-11-02:

CSS160904 H-band reduced image has some sky subtraction residuals in the default PESSTO pipeline reduction. Image re-reduced without the illumination correction step, which appeared to improve the image quality.

SN2016hvl H-band reduced image has some sky subtraction residuals in the default PESSTO pipeline reduction. Image re-reduced without the illumination correction step, which appeared to improve the image quality.

2016-11-21:

SN2016hnk observations include a set of bad frames. Bad SOFI configuration reported by the observers in the nightlog. After the problem was fixed, a new sequence was obtained. The affected files were not included in the reductions:

SN2016ije has only one H-band exposure; a sky subtraction and reduction with the PESSTO pipeline is not possible.

2017-03-06:

Observations were obtained in JHKs bands without the object name placed in the OB. However, based on the coordinates the object is SN2017abw. The resulting files are:

2017-03-24:

AT2016jbu JHKs-band observations were obtained in two sets of ON and OFF observations. The PESSTO pipeline produces two sets of reduced images from these. One of the Ks-band sets was obtained with 4 ON frames and only 1 OFF frame. This set was reduced using only the ON frames. The resulting reduced image is

PESSTOASTRO was used to fix the astrometry and derive the zeropoint for the following 34 images for which the PESSTO pipeline did not derive the astrometry correctly resulting e.g. in a ASTROMET header value of "990 999 0 9999.0", "990 999 1 9999.0", or "990 999 2 9999.0", and not PHOTZP or PHOTZPER header entries.
