"Notes for speakers:"
Times on the agenda are fairly generous - please try to stick to time, including questions. Although we will encourage questions amd interaction during the talks rather than a question session after presentation.
For the survey talks, could you emphasise cadence, area, and filter coverage. Will help assess the types/numbers of objects that each will find (i.e. a 5DC will find very few faint&fast but a 1DC will find lots.) This was done at Belfast meeting, but worth looking at again, particularly as LSQ is now running - would be useful to see what exactly is being done.
Video Conference Option
For the duration of the PESSTO meeting we have booked an EVO meeting. Connection details are:
Title: PESSTO
Community: Universe
Password: on request contact Stefan (tauben AT mpa-garching.mpg.de)
Phone Bridge
ID: 470 7073
Password: on request contact Stefan (tauben AT mpa-garching.mpg.de)
Shortcut for registered EVO users: click here to join the conference (valid 02/07 8.30 CET -- 02/08 20.00 CET).
For all others there are several possibilities for joining the conference:
EVO Software
For this you have to get an EVO account and start the EVO software (Java Web Start, no installation necessary). You can obtain EVO from here. If you already have an EVO account you can use this direct link to connect to the conference immediately.
Java issues
If the EVO software does not start directly from within your browser after clicking on the link above or the "Start Evo" button on the EVO website, open a console window and start the downloaded koala.jlnp directly using the javaws command.
We have made the best experience using the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) provided by Oracle (formerly Sun Microsystems). You can download it fromhere. On GNU/Linux systems there might be a package called sun-java6-bin.
Phone
There is an audio-only connection to the meeting via ordinary phone lines.
Call the phone gateway in your country. (full list)
When asked for it, enter the phone bridge ID (see above). Be sure to use touch-tone dialing (DTMF).
Enter the phone bridge password (see above).
Skype
The Skype connection is audio-only. Detailed instructions can be found here.
Call the Skype contact "evo.phone".
Enter the phone bridge ID and password (see above) using the dial pad.
H.323 video conference system
If you intend to use a H.323 video conference system to connect to the EVO meeting, please contact Stefan (tauben AT mpa-garching.mpg.de).
Registration and Participant list
PLEASE ADD YOUR NAME, or email Stefan (tauben AT mpa-garching.mpg.de): deadline for registration is 31st January.
To ensure you have wireless credentials please send your MAC-address to Maria Depner (maria AT mpa-garching.mpg.de) by 2nd February. Note that eduroam should in theory work as well.
How to get here
From the airport you can take one of two trains (called S-Bahn; S1 or S8) that would both eventually arrive in downtown Munich, but take different routes. To arrive in Garching, you have to get off earlier anyway.
If you want to come to the institute directly, you have two possibilities:
take the S1 to the station called Neufahrn, and from there the bus 690 to the campus (Garching Forschungszentrum)
take the S8 to Ismaning, and then the bus 230A to Garching Forschungszentrum (exiting at Boltzmannstrasse).
You can choose depending on which S-Bahn comes first.
If you plan to go to your hotel first, the second option is definitely better, and you would get off the bus already in the city centre of Garching. Between Garching and the campus there is a subway (U-Bahn) connection (1 stop).
You can check all possible connections at http://efa.mvv-muenchen.de/mvv/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?language=en
Transportation maps can be found at http://www.mvg-mobil.de/netzplaene/index.html
Concerning the ticket options: have a look at http://www.mvv-muenchen.de/en/home/tickets/faresoverview/index.html Be aware that the prices on this page are not up to date.
For your connection between the airport and Garching the best choice is a day ticket (Tageskarte) for the outer district (Aussenraum). It costs 5.60 Euros. For a trip from Garching to Munich and back, a day ticket Munich XXL for 7.50 Euros is the preferred option. The tickets have to be validated!
A map of the campus is available at http://www.eso.org/public/about-eso/travel/images/eso-campus.jpg It highlights ESO, but MPA is just next to it.
