ePESSTO+ policies

This page describes the management structure of the ePESSTO+ Large Programme, and the policies which enable the smooth running of the collaboration.
Any comments should be directed to both the survey PI (Cosimo Inserra) and the current chair of the science board (Joe Anderson).

The email lists have now formally transferred to ePESSTO+. This means that the distribution list from these emails is now defined as the ePESSTO+ members.

There may be occasions in which it is more appropriate to use the old PESSTO/ePESSTO membership list for communication.
For example, papers in preparation which are wholly based on PESSTO/ePESSTO data. In this case, you can follow the instructions here.

Science Board

ePESSTO+ has a management structure (science board and operating team) outlined in the Organisational structure page
The PI is C. Inserra, and there is a Science Board consisting of members from main partners and leaders of input surveys. J. Anderson (ESO Chile) is the Chair of this Board; the chair can rotate each April. The Board have ultimate responsibility for delivery of a successful Large Programme and have the authority to change the leadership and direction of the operating team.
While the Board will act as the highest level decision-making body of the survey, the implementation of ePESSTO+ is carried out by the Survey Director and the operating team

ePESSTO+ Policies and documents

ePESSTO+ light curves

The NTT should not be used for optical broad-band imaging, unless targets are out of reach of the smaller facilities and there is a science need for deep imaging. In this case, EFOSC2 optical photometry will be permitted  e.g. for >21mag targets.

Note that it is the science PI's responsibility to organise the photometric follow-up and deliver a light curve, and that this light curve is a requirement: the photometric table will be required to be delivered to ESO (not the data, just the LC table)

ePESSTO+ Science Groups

The ePESSTO+ science groups are listed at the following page: ePESSTO+ Science Group Proposals

When a classification spectrum identifies an interesting target for follow-up, the science lead of the relevant science group has first refusal on this target. If they are not interested or not able to lead a full follow-up campaign, others may take the lead following an open call within the relevant science group.

Targets can only become follow-up targets with the approval of the Survey P.I., the Science Board chair and the TAT chair. For each science target, a science P.I. is assigned (and their contact details must be listed on the Marshall). Once this is achieved, a summary of the target, Science Group and Science PI must be sent to alerts@pessto.org by the science group lead or his/her delegate.
